Corey, Cosmo and I were a pack.  Corey was my dog (the love of my life) and Cosmo ended up being his dog.  I'd never seem that before.  We went everywhere together; work, walks, vacations.  Corey was the typical Corgi, bold and friendly.  Cosmo was reticent and shy, always waiting and seeing and oh so gentle.  Old and arthritic, he and Buffy would play by him barking at her and she taking off like a bullet doing laps upstairs and down.  Thank you Cos.  I'm going to miss you.IMG_7929

As is my wont I've been finding and rereading older Buffy stories.  Trying to stay away from ones that you-can-tell-what-was-going-on-in-fandom ones.  Heh.  I like those too sometimes.  Anyway, I really enjoyed Josephine Martin's "The Rest of My Life".  The voices are off, I don't think Buffy or Spike are that meditative or structured internally.  Didn't mind much because it was such an interesting plot.  It was to advance the story not the love interest theme.
And then I reread Devilpiglet.    "Prayer's to a Broken Stone" then "Roundabout".  Gah, as we used to say.  Dynamic.  Relationship focused, DON'T CARE.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Back in Sept. we had my SIL move in with us;  she's unemployed and running out of unemployment.  Generally she is 3 or more states away.  My son and his SO are here also, back from their adventure in the South.  Family can be a wonderful thing.  And pie!

RIP Ms Lessing.  The affect her writing had on my way of thinking, from her early semi-biographical novels, space fiction, oh my, her book on cats.  I'm hoping she finished her autobiography to be published posthumously.  Rest well.  And Thank You.

RIP Lou.  Everyone is raving about your Velvet Underground days.  I found your ability to address complex issues with such simple humanity in your later work to be amazing.

My cats spent the holiday weekend bringing me things. Mostly dead things. The best was the live catbird they brought into the house. There were 3 of us stalking it in my office, trying to corner it enough for me to grab and the 2 cats to toy with some more. It flew away when I go it back outside. Really kitties? I know you love me and I know you're not hungry so stop with the pseudo food chain action, m'kay?

A slow stately waltz for all my married friends. And Scalia can go ... Something awful. Seriously.

Iain M. Banks has died. His The Culture series is one of the most incrediable universes I've ever immersed myself in. For years. He's going to be missed.

I've been reading some posts re: the Gage interview and A&F. Seems that the comics writers have decided Spike is the "little black dress" too.
I'd just like him to be less reactive.

I've spent the last 2 weekends working in my garden, basically clean up. Basically 2 years worth cause last year with the surgery and the treatments I was exhausted till September. So 4 large recycling bins of weeds and debris later I still have about 6 feet left to clear, some of that being lily of the valley which should only be planted in very contained areas. Feels good. Feels healthy. Looks pretty with the compost.
The comics sound pathetic. A&F looks like ANGEL &faith, all about the manpain which somehow redeems him. Buffy seems like a mess and from the previews and reviews I'm not picking up much continuity or story line. Dealing with the consequences of Destroying the Seed but no self reflection or learning. Oh boy, a real Action Figure. And its just really sad to see Spike treated the same way he was on s5 of Angel in A&F. As for his stint in Buffy? What the hell is her 'dark place' anyway? It always strikes me like the Cookie Dough speech and makes her look like a plot device not a character. Opaque when its handy! Its hard to be connected to someone who has spent the s8 and s9 NOT connected. They should do a retake of Spike making fun of Angel walking away after saving someone with Buffy. Le sigh.

My friend brought her dog to work with a temporary tattoo on his belly.
I love where I work.

RIP Dave Brubeck. Seeing him and the Quartet (with Paul Desmond) was/is one my best concert memories.
